HISTORY
Sports mean more than endorsements to Petrobras. They are the overcoming that challenges not only athletes, rather the company’s daily life. Encouraging sports is encouraging the society and renewing team spirit among Brazilians. It is on the racetracks that we test and develop products for the consumer to achieve better performances. Since 1956, Petrobras has been part of the history of Brazilian sports. It was then that our logo was first showcased in a competition, the first Brazilian Thousand Mile car race.
Our presence became more solid as of the 1980’s, after the company signed the contract with the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. In addition to soccer and to the Olympic and Para-Olympic Committees, we also started endorsing sports such as mountain climbing, indoor soccer, handball, surf, the world nature games, track & field, sailing, rowing, tennis, canoeing, the 2007 Pan and Parapanamerican Games, motorbiking, speed sailing, and car racing.
Our performance line is based on strategic and market objectives, and sports are also in this planning. Seven years ago, the Petrobras Endorsement Programs were launched to define our endorsement guidelines. Now, in 2008, we present the Petrobras Sports & Citizenship program.
Petrobras’ endorsement agreements now encompass all auto racing segments - formula, tourism, rally, kart, trucks and prototypes -, as well as motorbiking, surf, soccer, tennis, and Brazilian Olympic sports, through support given to Handball and to the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
