Petrobras Mini-Hand

The Mini-Hand Project was created in 2000 by the Brazilian Handball Confederation. The main goal was to offer children from communities at risk a sports qualification opportunity. The program got Petrobras’ support in 2004.

The Mini-Handball initiates children aged 8 to 12 years in the game, the characteristics of which are slightly different from the traditional sport: Recreational activities help qualify the children, much more in a fun than in a competitive manner. The basics and elements are the same, but the number of players on the court differs. The competitions are mixed: boys and girls play together.

Petrobras Mini-Hand’s activities are held outside of school hours, as one of the requirements to participate in the project is being enrolled in school. Fifty-four centers have already been created nationwide, involving about 5,000 kids.
