Dakar

The last to leave and the last to arrive, the Dakar heavy-weights wrapped the world’s biggest, most famed, and most dangerous off-road competition up. And it was exactly in this category that the Petrobras Lubrax Team achieved its best result in the overall classification, with the Tatra truck manned by André Azevedo, Maykel Justo and Mira Martinec, finishing 5th in the sum of the times.

During the 15th and last stage, the Brazilian trio (with the due Czech Mira spicing) was the sixth fastest, taking 10 minutes and 46 seconds to cover the 16 kilometers of the track traced around the already traditional Rose Lake, in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. During the rally, the team accumulated good results, such as a 2nd place in the tenth stage, and a 3rd place in the next-to-last stage. This year, no less than 85 trucks competed in the Dakar, a record for the event. Of these, 60 crossed the finish line.

Bikes – Brazilian Jean Azevedo finished his ninth participation in the Dakar Rally with the fourth best time of the day, in front of thousands of Senegalese who crowded the margins of Lake Rose to witness the end of the rally. The winner of the next-to-last stage between Tambacounda and Dakar, the Petrobras Lubrax Team driver covered the short timed 16 km of the track traced around Lake Rose, the traditional final Dakar destination, in 9 minutes and 10 seconds. In the overall classification, Jean wrapped the 2007 Dakar edition up ranked 25th.

This year, of the 245 bikes that left Lisbon, only 132 finished the rally, the highest friction rate of all categories.

Cars – The Klever Kolberg and Eduardo Bampi duo concluded their participation in the 2007 Dakar Rally. In an edition in which there was an abundance of mishaps such as accidents, break-downs and even one theft, the two Petrobras Lubrax Team’s Mitsubishi Pajero Full crew got the 12th best time of the day, repeating their result in yesterday’s stage and, once again, reaching their best stage results this year.

In the overall classification, the duo ended the rally ranked 56th. They went as far as ranking 21st, but because of a series of problems, which reached its peak when the back differential broke in the sixth stage and paralyzed the duo’s Mitsubishi and knocked them down to a distant 122nd position,–they were prevented from reaching a better performance in the sum of the times. Of the 180 cars that left Lisbon, 109 crossed the finish line.
