In order to profitably perform in the oil, gas and energy industry, in the market both at home and abroad, the largest Latin American oil corporation seeks to develop in accordance with its size.
Petrobras continues providing quality products and services, respecting the environment, considering the interests of its shareholders and contributing towards the development of the country, in order to become a strong company on the international scene in 2010.
A new organizational structure model has been developed by the company to achieve this, and it now operates in four business areas: E&P (Exploration & Production), Supplies, Gas & Energy and International.
The purpose of the Petrobras business area responsible for the Energy segment is to identify, assess, develop and deploy electricity generation projects. As well as operate plants and conduct retail energy sales in which Petrobras participates directly or through subsidiaries.
Petrobras participates through its new Energy unit in the Priority Programon Thermoelectricity (PPT) run by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, regulated by Decree no. 3371, dated February 24th 2000. Petrobras is responsible for 30% of the program.
Natural Gas, the fuel of the future
The sensible coherent option of using natural gas as an energy source is based on the fact that it is a clean fuel, a product with no environmental constraints and which significantly reduces pollution rates. The fuel of the future, as it is already being called, contributes directly towards a better quality of life in the large cities.
Adopted as raw material in the steel, chemical, petrochemical and fertilizer industries, natural gas provides heat, generates electricity and is a driving force. In the transportation area it can substitute diesel fuel, gasoline and alcohol, thus participating directly and indirectly in the life of the whole population.
