To increase its performance in energies that contribute to sustainable development, Petrobras no longer works solely with oil, rather, it is now an integrated energy company in the broadest sense of the word. One of the segments it has boosted its operations in is renewable energy. By investing in eolian, solar, and biofuel energy, among others, the company helps to diversify the Brazilian energy matrix.
The biofuel and renewable energy area is the highlight in Petrobras’ 2020 Strategic Plan and in its 2008-2012 Business Plan. Investments in the order of $1.3 billion have been foreseen for renewable energies.
The HBIO production process Petrobras developed allows vegetable oils to be mixed to mineral oil directly in the refining unit. The outcome is diesel with better quality than that produced solely from oil.
