2005 Best Marketing Award for Social Responsibility

The Best Marketing Award for Social Responsibility is among the most important prizes in the social responsibility area in Brazil and is aimed at stimulating and acknowledging actions organizations undertake in this field.

2004 Company of the Year in Environmental Management

The Rio de Janeiro State Industry Federation (FIRJAN) will be honoring PETROBRAS’ Duque de Caxias Refinery - Reduc - as the 2004 Company of the Year in Environmental Management.

2004 marked the beginning of a new era for Reduc, one of environmental excellence and social responsibility. The Term of Commitment was signed by PETROBRAS, by the State Environment and Urban Development Secretariat, the State Environment Engineering Foundation (FEEMA), and by the Federal Prosecutor’s office in November 2000. In total, 42 actions were carried out, with a record investment of R$223,225,559.84 million made in improvements that included, among others, contingency plans, emergency equipment, residue elimination, effluent and atmospheric emission reductions, as well as industrial process modernization.

The conclusion of the Term of Commitment for Environmental Adjustments (TCEA), in January 2005, proves PETROBRAS’ determination to ensure ongoing improvements in its production process, which is so important for the Country’s development.

"Best Accessibility" Certificate

Petrobras was the first company to be awarded with the "Best Accessibility" Certificate. The award is part of the City Ministry’s Accessible Brazil Program and it is granted to companies that have architectural and engineering projects adapted for access by the physically disabled. The Company complied with all requirements and became the first corporation to reach the Gold ranking.

The "Best Accessibility" Certificate was created to stimulate companies to adapt their structures and facilitate social insertion by the physically disabled. The award was granted by the Commission for the Defense of the Physically Disabled, on April 14 2005, at the Rio de Janeiro House of Representatives.

CEMPRE 2004 Award

Petrobras, through the CAEC Waste Collectors Cooperative in Bahia, which is part of the Petrobras Zero Hunger Program, was winner of the CEMPRE 2004 award - Community Category in the Northeast Region. The awards ceremony will be held on December 2nd in São Paulo.

The Cempre Selective Collection Prize 2004 - Community Category - was created to encourage non-government organizations, community associations, collector cooperatives, foundations or other kinds of community organizations to develop innovative processes to increase the collection of recyclable post-consumer solid waste all over Brazil.

Business Commitment to Recycling (Cempre) is a non-profit association, founded in 1992, to encourage recycling under the concept of integrated waste management. More about Cempre at address: www.cempre.org.br (*)

2nd FGV-EASESP Prize for Social Responsibility in Retail

Petrobras was awarded the 2nd FGV-EAESP Prize for Social Responsibility in Retail, during the Getulio Vargas Foundation seminar on October 19 in São Paulo. The company was elected in the Large Company category for its Able Citizen project, which is part of the Petrobras Zero Hunger Program. There were 113 candidates from all over the country competing in different segments.

The idea of the awards is to identify and encourage projects, programs or actions of social responsibility implemented by companies and professional associations in the retail sector.

The Able Citizen project, created in 2002 and coordinated by BR Distribuidora, builds the capacity of people with special needs and gives them job opportunities in Petrobras service stations. Four service stations have already been completely adapted and operating: in Rio de Janeiro, Valinhos (São Paulo), Cambori (Espirito Santo) and Brasilia-DF.

3rd Best Marketing Award for Social Responsibility

The idea behind the Best Marketing Award for Social Responsibility is to award outstanding organizations and companies that have contributed to solving problems and needs in the country, performing social actions for their internal public, as well as for the communities to which they are related. In the third year, in June 2004 Petrobras won with three projects, as follows:

- Fostering Cooperativism
- Move-Brazil
- Young Citizenship Network
