Compact is the result of an invitation to the private sector from Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), so that UN agents and social players together can contribute to advancing the practice of corporate social responsibility, seeking a more sustainable and comprehensive global economy.

Petrobras adhered to the principles of the UN Global Compact in October 2003, which now gives its environmentally and socially responsible actions further international visibility, extending its contribution to disseminating the best practices in these segments.
