The Gas & Energy sector’s strategy is based on increasing natural gas sales. To do so, market and transportation perspectives have been defined to provide the necessary support for the proposed goals to be achieved.
To develop markets, the sector's activities are guided, on one side, towards integrating Petrobras Bolivia Transports to the border businesses, and, on the other, to enhance Transierra’s networks to increase sales to Brazil and Argentina. The important results the sector has reached show the high proficiency of its operations.
Transportation and Compression
Petrobras Bolivia Transportes (PBT) is in charge of sending the volumes that have been marketed to the Puerto Suárez region, where the CRE thermoelectric plant and the Gravetal corporation are located.
PBT’s current transportation capacity is 1.05 million m³ a day of gas destined to market development on the border region with Brazil. The pipeline is 17 km long, ranging from the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline delivery point to the CRE and Gravetal distribution sites.
Transierra
Transierra S.A., a company Petrobras holds 44.5% of, through Petrobras Bolivia Inversiones y Servicios S.A., transports the gas coming from the San Alberto and Sábalo (San Antonio) blocks.
The company delivers the natural gas to the Rio Grande Compression Plant through the Yacuiba-Rio Grande Gas Pipeline (GASYRG), which is 432 km long. This gas pipeline's current installed transportation capacity is 17.6 million m³ a day, and, in 2005, its usage averaged 88.6%.
In this context, the GASYRG’s installed capacity use has been on the rise, and Transierra has become an important player in the business of transporting the gas exported to Brazil (GSA agreement), with a 70.3% participation.
Rio Grande Compression Plant
To be involved in the entire productive chain, Petrobras has participation in the Rio Grande Compression Plant. This plant’s gas compression capacity is 43.8 million m³ a day, allowing larger volumes of gas to be marketed both in the domestic market and through the agreement with Brazil (GSA).
