Petrobras and Cinema

Petrobras has been the great partner of Brazilian cinema since 1994. The company’s sponsorship in this segment is present both in feature and short film production, as well as in film circulation in the biggest and most important festivals throughout Brazil and in other initiatives aimed at disseminating the Brazilian cinematographic production, such as the “Curta Petrobras às Seis,” the “Cine BR em Movimento,” and the “Porta-Curtas Petrobras.” Petrobras is also present in the “Cine Odeon BR” and in the “Ponto Cine Guadalupe,” in several publications and critical texts, and in projects dedicated to qualifying new professionals and forming new audiences, such as the “Oficina de Audiovisual da CUFA” (the so-called Single Shantytown Center) and the Darcy Ribeiro Cinema School.

The restoration of the work of Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, Glauber Rocha, and Nelson Pereira dos Santos are the company’s main actions in the cinema memory area. The Brasília, Gramado, Rio, São Paulo, Pernambuco, and Ceará cinema festivals, as well as the Anima Mundi, among others, are projects that get Continuity support, in addition to dozens of others, in all regions of the country, which have been being invited from year to year. Hundreds of producers – renowned and rookies – have already been chosen in the public production selections (for 35-mm feature and short films or in digital media) and broadcasting (support for feature film launches), entries for which are opened in the Petrobras Cultural Program every November.

As of its 2006/2007 Edition, the Petrobras Cultural Program opens public selection for cinema festivals, boosting regional sponsorship resource distribution for this sector. The Program is also debuting, in this edition, public selection for education for the arts projects and inclusive cultural presentations which, naturally, opens space for support for films, videos, DVDs, etc., coming from social projects nationwide.
