2008 Results

This Sunday (03/16), the University of São Paulo São Carlos School of Engineering's Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 team became the winner of the 14th Baja SAE BRASIL-PETROBRAS Competition, held at Esporte Clube Piracicabano de Automobilismo (ECPA), in Piracicaba/SP, for the sixth time. The team scored 936.34 points at the engineering competition, while USP's Polytechnic School's Poli Arsenal team added 886.73 points up and ranked second.

Organized by SAE BRASIL, and with 59 teams present, of a total of 70 entrees, the competition started on the 13th, with safety evaluations, and ended with the Resistance Enduro among 46 cars, developed and built by students from several Countries, in addition to from Brasília.

With two teams entered in the competition, the São Carlos School of engineering São Carlos (EESC/USP) students celebrated their achievement. "Our teams had been getting organized and investing in the bajas since October. They were focused on winning the competition," explained Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 team captain, mecatronics engineering student Marcelo Queiroz.

Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 team's car also won the Resistance Enduro by completing 75 laps on a tough 1.35-km circuit in four hours of competition. Marcelo Queiroz attributed the good performance to the car's low weight: nearly 150 kg.

Canada - As an award for their victories, the Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 and Poli Arsenal teams will be able to represent Brazil at the Baja SAE Montreal, a competition held by SAE International, scheduled for June 11 to 14, in Montreal, Canada. The FEI Baja 2 team, from the FEI University Center (Inaciana Educational Foundation), from São Bernardo do Campo/SP, which ranked third this Sunday in Piracicaba, with 828.11 points, will also participate in the competition in Canada because it won the Baja SAE RIT Competition, held last year in New York, USA, by SAE International.

The team that ranked fourth in the 14th Baja SAE BRASIL-PETROBRAS competition was the Mitsubishi EESC USP 2 team, followed by the Sinuelo-Fahor Team, from the Horizontina College, Rio Grande do Sul. The competition also awarded the 59 teams in eight categories:

Best Acceleration: Poli Arsenal Team

Best Top Speed: Mangue Baja 1 Team, from the Federal University of Pernambuco

Best Traction: Sinuelo-Fahor Team

Best Maneuverability and best Operator Comfort: FEI Baja 1 Team

Best Project Report: Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 Team and Baja UFMG 2 Team, the latter from the Minas Gerais Federal University

Best Project Presentation: FEI Baja 2 Team

Test Resistance Enduro: Mitsubishi EESC USP 1 Team
