GOLDEN TENURE

Aratinga guarouba (Gmelin, 1788)
Classification: Order Psittaciformes, Family Psittacidae
Size: 34 cm

Favourite food: nuts of the açaí euterpe palm (Euterpe sp.).

Very sociable, even during reproduction. Lives in woods. Because of its yellow and green colors, the guaruba was proposed as the national symbol-bird.

Voice: "graow-graow-graow"; on mating, prolonged and strident stanzas "coo-ow..".
