Care in the Production

At the production stage monitoring of the environment continues as the teams proceed with the work.

When a gusher is discovered production equipment is installed, consisting of control valves, surface pipelines and storage points, among others. For offshore wells able to produce on a comercial scale, fixed or floating platforms are installed and, upon them, the producing facilities. For submarine wells the production control valves are installed in the bottom of the sea itself.
Down-the-hole equipment is provided with blowout valves to prevent uncontrolled production or eruption of a well. Trained teams of men are constantly on the alert to deal with any emergency to avoid or reduce any harm to the environment.

Crude oil is produced together with water. After being separated from the oil and gas, the water is treated and discarded in such a way as not to cause any harm to the environment. In some instances the water is injected back into the reservoir rock to increase pressure therein and hence, output of the well.

The treatment to which the crude is subjected results in oily residues which even if small in quantity are carefully handled to avoid any contamination of surrounding areas.

New technologies permit reuse of liquids effenents resulting from production work.
