According to Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, Petrobras is the ninth largest company in the downstream sector - refining, transport and commercialization of oil and oil products.
The term downstream, in Petrobras, is integrally linked to a large part of the company's operational structure: its refineries, fertilizer manufacturing plants, bases, pipelines and ships.
To ensure that it is up-to-date technologically speaking, Petrobras is constantly improving and perfecting its downstream activities, in an attempt to: supply the growing domestic market for oil products, ensure the quality expected from its fuels, safety at work, export possibilities and care for the environment.
