Special gasolines are used, by and large, by car makers and laboratories to develop engines, test performance, emissions, and also as the first gasoline to supply the vehicles fresh off the assembly line. These fuels have special characteristics and properties that set them aside from those that are provided to the consumer market. Three types of special gasoline are marketed:
1. Reference gasoline to measure consumption and emissions – the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (NPA) specifies it, and the product is used to homologate vehicles in emissions assays;
2. Gasolines for performance tests – tailor-made, according to the customer’s specifications;
3. First fill gasoline – produced with several specifications to serve the car makers. It is used to supply the vehicles when they are fresh off the assembly line, allowing them to be moved in the factory courtyards and at the dealerships.
