Aiming at reducing even more the particulate material emissions, since May 2006, the Metropolitan Road Diesel Fuel that is marketed has a maximum sulfur content of 0.05% (500 ppm). In the first half of 2005, Petrobras took a step ahead of the future legislation and started providing the D 550 Diesel Fuel in the metropolitan regions in the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais.

Aiming at quick and easy recognition by the consumers, the metropolitan diesel fuel is not colored, as is the case with the interior diesel fuel. It can be marketed additized or not. If it is additized, it gets a specific denomination, as Extra Diesel, at Petrobras Distribuidora.

This product attends to the National Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuel Agency (NPA) specifications, which are unique to the Brazilian market and have different equivalencies for the other countries.
