Paraffins are linear or branched paraffinic hydrocarbons with more than 18 carbon atoms and they are solid at room temperature. Paraffins can be classified as macrocrystalline and microcrystalline. They are obtained from lube oil fractions through deparaffination and oil removal processes.
Even present in chewing gum, paraffin is used in several types of products. Sold by distribution companies in the form of tablets or in volume, its main consumption market is candles, but it is also used to manufacture polishing waxes, matches, photographic film, industrialize papers, tires and rubbers, in addition to in the agricultural market, such as in parabolised rice and to protect fruits and seeds.
