Welcome. We are Petrobras, Brazil's largest energy company; a company with a
history of achievements, records and international recognition; a company that
acknowledges its social responsibilities and is concerned about preserving the environment.
Our organizational structure defines how we operate. We are divided into four business areas: Exploration and Production, Downstream, Gas & Energy and International, plus two support functions: Finance and Services, not counting the corporate functions reporting directly to the president.
We closed 2008 with a production of 2.4 million barrels of oil equivalent, a milestone reached by few companies in the world. We have 112 production platforms, 78 of which fixed and 34 floating, and 15 refineries with installed capacity to process 2.2 million barrels per day. We also have 5,998 service stations all over Brazil, in addition to another 990 of them abroad. No matter where you go, Petrobras is there, whether in Brazil or abroad. We are present in 27 countries on four continents, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Angola, Nigeria, Tanzania, Libya, Mozambique, Senegal, India, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Portugal, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, China and Japan, and count on the support of our offices in Houston, New York, London, Tokyo, Singapore, China, and Chile.
The economic and financial reports also show that, in the competitive scenario, we continue in our trend towards growth. Profit surged from $1.373 billion, in 1997, to more than $13 billion in 2007.
For the third time, we earned the right to be listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. We are part of the Pro-Gender Equality Program.
In December 2007, Petroleum Intelligence Weekly rated us the 8th biggest oil company in the world with shares traded in stock exchanges. In the overall ranking, which evaluated 125 companies, Petrobras is the world's 15th biggest.
