A company's function today is no longer solely to make a profit, pay taxes and abide by the law. Petrobras is aware that production interacts with the environment and uses natural resources that are part of everybody's heritage. It thus considers it its duty to render accounts to society concerning the impact of its activities on the biosphere. A comprehensive review was undertaken of information and safety procedures as well as of the training programs of related personnel.
Today we are a transparent corporation, concerned with improving the way we make information available and render accounts to society. Over the years, we have introduced increased external monitoring of our activities: independent audits oversee our spending in the more environmentally sensitive areas; remedial action plans have been signed with reknown environmental entities; advisory partnerships have been set up with universities and other third sector organizations.
We still have a long way to go on the road to fully sustainable development and ideal relations with society. But we are taking gigantic steps in that direction, guided by the principles of ethics, transparency, fairness and sustainability. These values are not negotiable.
